With over 25 years of experience across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, Adam Du Plooy, the general manager of Desert Falls Water & Adventure Park, has led operations at world-renowned waterparks including Wild Wadi and Laguna Waterpark in Dubai. Under his leadership, Desert Falls—which features 30 rides and Qatar’s only canyoning adventure—continues to focus on safety, innovation, and guest experience.

Azqa Haroon sat down with Adam Du Plooy to learn more about what’s ahead for the park this summer.

QH: What makes Desert Falls unique?
Adam: We are a true family destination. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or just want to relax, Desert Falls offers both excitement and leisure. It’s a place where families can enjoy a full day together—there’s something for everyone.

QH: Are there any new rides or features coming soon?
Adam: Yes! We’re launching a new event called “Splash After Dark,” starting June 12 and continuing monthly throughout summer. Guests can enjoy disco lights, neon bands, dancing, and a fun, vibrant nighttime experience. We’re also introducing a Fastpass for QR 150, offering guests the option to skip the lines for a more exclusive visit.

QH: How is the park fun for all age groups?
Adam: Desert Falls is divided into distinct zones. Thrill-seekers can enjoy go-karts, laser tag, and aqua gliding, while kids have four dedicated play areas. Plus, 60% of the park is shaded, creating a cool, cave-like environment perfect for younger visitors.

QH: What summer offers can guests expect?
Adam: We’re relaunching our popular “Pay Less, Play More” offer at QR 99 from June 14 to the end of the month. It’s designed to encourage visitors from Doha to experience the park at an affordable rate. Guests will get great value for their money.

QH: How do you ensure a balance between safety and fun?
Adam: Safety is our top priority. We have a strong guest-to-lifeguard ratio and weekly in-service training sessions. We’ve recently earned the Platinum Award for safety from Ellis and Associates, reflecting our dedication to maintaining the highest standards.

QH: What’s your vision for the future of the park?
Adam: We aim to be a year-round destination—not just a waterpark. We’re looking at hosting themed events, nighttime activities, and corporate team-building sessions. The park feels like an escape from the city, and we want to continue offering that kind of unique, immersive experience.

QH: How does Desert Falls compare to other waterparks globally?
Adam: This is the fifth waterpark I’ve worked in, and it’s truly world-class. We recently won a global design award, and our park reflects Qatari culture and natural landscapes. Whether you’re chasing thrills or relaxing in the lazy river, the park transports you—it really feels like you’re in another world.
