Works first exhibited during Tasweer Photo Festival’s third edition become part of a FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ legacy exhibition presented as part of the Qatar Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture

A selection of photographs originally presented in After the Game, one of the flagship exhibitions of the third edition of Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar, has been chosen for inclusion in Journeys to Greatness: Qatar 2022 Legacy, an exhibition presented by the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum in partnership with Mexico’s Ministry of Culture, through the Centro de Cultura Digital (CCD).

The exhibition connects the legacy of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ with the tournament’s next chapter in Canada and Mexico in 2026, representing a key programme of the Qatar Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture. Through photography, objects and multimedia storytelling, the exhibition reflects on football as a shared cultural experience, bringing together athletes, fans and communities from around the world.

The selected Tasweer works expand the exhibition’s exploration of Qatar 2022’s lasting impact, offering intimate perspectives on the people, places and moments that defined the tournament beyond the pitch. The photographs are integrated throughout several of the Journeys to Greatness exhibition sections, including Look of the GameMatches and Players, and Unity in Diversity, highlighting photography’s power to document the human stories that continue to shape the tournament’s legacy.

Abdulla Al Mulla, Director of the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, said: “The legacy of Qatar 2022 belongs not only to the players and the matches, but also to the fans who brought the tournament to life. Their journeys, emotions, colours and celebrations were essential to the experience of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Through this exhibition, and as part of the Qatar Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture, we are proud to show how those memories continue to connect people across borders. I was particularly struck by the cultural engagement, and specifically by how these visitors embraced the customs and traditions of the Qatari people in particular, and the Gulf people in general.”

Khalifa Al Obaidli, Director of Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar, said: “Photography has a unique ability to preserve emotion. The works first shown in After the Game capture the experiences, encounters and shared humanity that made Qatar 2022 such a transformative milestone. We are proud to see these images continue their tour as part of Journeys to Greatness, where they help tell the story of a tournament whose impact continues through culture, memory and human connection.”

Originally developed for Tasweer’s third edition in 2025, After the Game explored the enduring legacy of Qatar 2022 through the lens of photographers who documented moments of celebration, reflection and connection across the country.

Curated by Sheikha Najla Al Thani, Journeys to Greatness is an interactive, multimedia exhibition that explores the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ as a defining moment for Qatar and the wider region. Its presentation in Mexico forms part of a broader cultural programme marking a symbolic passing of the torch from Qatar 2022™ to Mexico 2026™. The exhibition is on view at Centro de Cultura Digital in Mexico City through 9 August 2026.
