What began as a desire to improve Dalreece Rankin-Andreas’s health became a life-changing journey marked by resilience, determination, and personal growth. After struggling with obesity for much of her adult life and reaching a weight of 224.5kg, she made the courageous decision to take control of her well-being. Along the way, she faced significant physical and emotional challenges, including serious complications following surgery, yet emerged stronger than ever. Today, she is passionate about inspiring other women to prioritise their health and is preparing to launch a wellness community in Doha dedicated to supporting women through every stage of their wellness journey. Sara Naveed got the chance to speak with Dalreece about her remarkable transformation, the obstacles she overcame, and her mission to empower women through wellness.
Qreate: What inspired you to begin your weight loss and wellness journey?
Dalreece: Being obese all my adult life presented challenges in both my personal and professional life. I was even asked in a job interview whether I would lose weight if hired. Upon moving to Qatar in 2021, I finally had the means to seek help through bariatric surgery, at that time I weighed 224.5kg. And so began my weight loss journey.
Qreate: What were some of the biggest challenges you faced, and how did you overcome them?
Dalreece: The biggest challenge over this five-year journey was the complications from my skin removal surgery. I was naive and underwent more procedures than was safe, and the teams at HMC brought me back from the brink. The experience nearly broke me physically and mentally, and I carry scars that have changed my body. Yet my gratitude for simply being alive became my greatest strength.
Qreate: How has your transformation impacted your physical and mental well-being?
Dalreece: The changes in my physical well-being have been remarkable, particularly in flexibility and endurance. At my heaviest, I could not walk from a car park into a shopping mall. Mentally, I still face challenges, but I now have a clarity I never had before and the ability to pull myself through even the most difficult days.
Qreate: What advice would you give to someone just starting their fitness journey?
Dalreece: Obesity is a chronic disease for many, so please seek help and don’t suffer alone. There is nothing wrong with asking for support. Above all, don’t give up on yourself. You are capable of anything, and you only truly fail when you stop trying.
Qreate: What are your future health, fitness, or personal goals?
Dalreece: My goal is to maintain my fitness and inspire other women to prioritise themselves. I am also launching a holistic wellness community for women in Doha, a space that brings women together in the name of wellness, across all realms of womanhood.
