Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Donald Trump discussed regional developments, maritime security risks, and diplomatic efforts to sustain the U.S.–Iran ceasefire during a phone call on Friday.
According to the Amiri Diwan, the Qatari leader and the U.S. president reviewed the latest developments in the region, with a focus on maintaining the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran. They also examined international efforts aimed at strengthening the truce, alongside concerns about how ongoing tensions could affect maritime security and global supply chains.
Sheikh Tamim underscored the importance of de-escalation and reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to resolving conflicts through dialogue, highlighting continued coordination with regional and international partners. He also pointed to Pakistan-led mediation efforts, which Qatar is supporting as part of broader diplomatic initiatives to stabilise the region.
In a separate update, the White House said senior U.S. officials are preparing to move forward with these diplomatic efforts. Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are expected to travel to Pakistan for talks with Iranian counterparts.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt noted that Iranian officials are seeking direct, in-person negotiations, adding that Washington remains open to a diplomatic solution. She also said JD Vance will stay in Washington for now but could join discussions if needed.
However, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that such talks are not currently part of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s visit to Pakistan.
