With a strong foundation in Business and Hospitality Management from Lebanese American University, Mr. Wael Al Sharif has built a distinguished career defined by growth, leadership, and innovation. Beginning as a management trainee, he steadily advanced through catering sales and food and beverage operations, holding key roles including catering sales manager at Sheraton Riyadh Hotel & Towers and later director of food and beverage.
His journey in Qatar began in 2011 with Torch Hospitality, where he played a pivotal role in the pre-opening of The Torch Doha and contributed to major projects such as Naufar. Rising to general manager and cluster director of food & beverage, he now serves as area general manager, overseeing a portfolio that includes The Torch Doha, Al Aziziyah Boutique Hotel, Mina Hotel and Residences, and 21 High Street Residence.
Qreate got the chance to speak with him exclusively for our May issue, where he shares his insights on Qatar’s evolving hospitality landscape, his favourite venues, and what lies ahead.
Qreate: Favourite venue to enjoy at your property and why?
Al Sharif: Three Sixty remains my favorite venue. Being the only revolving restaurant in Doha, it offers a truly unique dining experience, combining refined cuisine with panoramic views of the city. It perfectly reflects our commitment to innovation and memorable guest experiences.
Qreate: What is your take on Qatar’s culinary scene?
Al Sharif: Qatar’s culinary scene has evolved remarkably over the years. It is now a dynamic blend of international concepts and authentic local flavors, driven by innovation and high standards. The market is becoming more competitive, which ultimately elevates quality and creativity across the industry.
Qreate: What are some new things we can expect at your property for the new season?
Al Sharif: We are continuously enhancing our offerings to meet evolving guest expectations. This includes new dining concepts, curated seasonal menus, and elevated wellness experiences, particularly through The Torch Club. We are also focusing on creating more family-oriented and experiential offerings.
Qreate: Your insight on today’s market for hospitality?
Al Sharif: The hospitality market today is highly competitive and guest-driven. Personalization, experience, and value are key factors influencing decisions. Digital presence and reputation management also play a crucial role, and brands must continuously innovate to remain relevant.
Qreate: If you weren’t part of the hospitality industry, what would you be doing?
Al Sharif: I believe I would still be in a people-centric field, possibly in business development or consulting, where I can create value, build relationships, and drive growth.
